Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 20, 2026

Wake Rowing ("Wake Rowing", "we", "us") provides live regatta spectating and rowing-training tools. This policy explains what information we collect when you use our website and apps at wakerowing.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Wake Rowing is the operator of the Wake Rowing website and progressive web apps, including the spectator viewer, the on-water capture app, and the training reports. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

Information we collect

Account information

If you create a rower identity or sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a limited set of profile information from that provider — typically your name and email address and a stable account identifier. We use this only to create and recover your account and to attach your training history to you. We never receive your Google or Apple password.

Location data

When you record a row or race in the capture app, we collect GPS location from your device (roughly once per second) for the duration of that session. Location is collected only while you are actively tracking and have granted the browser location permission. During a race you have entered, your snapped position on the course is shown to spectators in real time; for a private "just rowing" session, your track is not shared with spectators.

Motion data (optional)

If you opt in to the stroke-rate or knock-to-mark features, the app reads your device's accelerometer and gyroscope on-device to estimate stroke rate and rhythm. These optional sensors are off by default. We store the derived values (such as strokes per minute), not the raw high-frequency sensor stream.

Training and usage data

We store the sessions you record — your route, timing, splits, distance, and derived metrics — so we can produce your training reports and trends over time. We also collect basic technical information (such as browser type and approximate request data) needed to operate the service securely.

How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Information from Google and Apple sign-in

When you choose to sign in with Google, we request only your basic profile and email address to authenticate you. Wake Rowing's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use this data solely to let you sign in and to associate your training data with your account; we do not transfer it to others except as needed to provide the service, do not use it for advertising, and do not allow humans to read it except where required for security or to comply with the law. The same principles apply to sign-in with Apple.

How your information is shared

Data storage, location, and security

Data is stored in our cloud backend (Supabase) and served through Cloudflare. Authentication tokens and secrets are stored only as hashes, access to the database is restricted, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Data retention

We keep your account and training data for as long as your account is active so your history compounds over time. You can delete individual outings from your training library at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data by contacting [email protected]. We may retain limited information where necessary for security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We honor these rights for all users.

Children

Wake Rowing is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Junior athletes typically use the service under the direction of a coach, parent, or club. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
